THE SERIE

Encounter (s) is a series of paintings (acrylic on canvas, 100x100cms) where Del

Valle creates ``snapshots’’. There is something going on in them, a certain

mystery, something to interpret. You never see people, but they are there. Many

are interrupted images, which continue beyond the frame, something is

happening.

There are vivid moments or sensual, dreamy situations in his paintings. In each

one you sense a story and presence. The paintings make us feel as if we were

voyeurs against time. We are mere observers of that painful mania of thinking

about what could have been or what never was, what lasted and what didn’t.

His work always pushes us to step behind the painting and maintain an almost

distant silence. It’s like something inappropriate, as if it were a painting that is

too personal and uncomfortable. But at the same time it makes us feel as it were

inside it, implicitly, tacitly almost by force.

BIOGRAPHY

Guillermo del Valle (Chile, 1955) has been a self‐taught man in everything he’s

done in life. He painted his first paintings at 13, using his fingers as brushes. He

dropped out of high school in the 1970s, attracted by a commitment to the

libertarian revolution of Allende in Chile. After the coup d’etat, he became a

clandestine political leader in the struggle against the dictator Pinochet. He was a

founder and vice president of the Party for Democracy, which led the fight to

retake democracy. Del Valle created and led a nongovernment organization

(PRED) dedicated to civic education, democratic participation and youth

training. Then, he dedicated 15 years of his life to managing public and private

energy companies. At the same time, he co‐founded a center for innovation and

knowledge (CICE), co‐founded the University of Rancagua and the Complex

Systems Institute of Valparaiso (www.sistemascomplejos.cl). He also designed,

built and oversaw numerous custom built homes

corporate endeavors and jumped back to the artistic endeavors of his youth,

painting. Since 2011 he lives in Barcelona, Spain, where he produced his first

paintings series.
